TOM BROWN'S
SCHOOLDAYS

by Thomas Hughes

Introduction

What is the connection between Tom Brown's Schooldays and the Wilts & Berks Canal?
It is the "Vale of the White Horse".  In the early chapters there are references to the canal and features of the surrounding landscape.  A Tom Brown Museum exists in Uffington.  It is housed in the 380 year old schoolroom featured in the book. Next time you are in the area why not combine a visit to the canal with a visit to the Museum.
