TOM BROWN'S
SCHOOLDAYS
by Thomas Hughes
(This etext was prepared from the 1905
Thomas Nelson and Sons edition by Gil Jaysmith)
(Web layout by SWS)
Introduction
What is the connection between Tom Brown's
Schooldays and the Wilts & Berks Canal?
It is the "Vale of the
White Horse". In the early chapters there are references to the
canal and features of the surrounding landscape. A Tom Brown
Museum exists
in Uffington. It is housed in the 380 year old schoolroom featured in
the book. Next time you are in the area why not combine a visit to the canal
with a visit to the Museum.
